AUXILIARY MEMBERS

 

Cobourg Police Service is seeking Auxiliary Officers to join the CPS Auxiliary Unit. Apply by October 31, 2024.

About the CPS Auxiliary Unit: The unit consists of 20 members from diverse backgrounds, working alongside sworn officers and special constables to serve Cobourg residents and visitors. The primary responsibility is running crime prevention initiatives.

Eligibility:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada pursuant to the Police Services Act,
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 75 years of age,
  • Be established in a career,
  • Be of good moral character and habits,
  • Consent to a criminal record check and background investigation. This includes, but is not limited to: CPIC check, Records check, character references, professional references, and a fingerprint check.
  • Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position.
  • Be able to volunteer for shifts that include evenings, nights, weekends including holidays at any time of the year,
  • Satisfactorily complete all tests, examinations, and interviews, and receive approval of the Selection Committee,
  • Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence – Class G – with good driving record.
  • Possess a valid First Aid, CPR Level C + AED Certification after joining as an auxiliary officer
  • Provide a letter from your regular employer acknowledging your desire to join the CPS Auxiliary Unit, and recognize that in cases of extreme emergency, your services may be immediately required,

Commitment:

  • Minimum of five (5) years
  • Minimum of 12 hours per month

Duties:

  • Lock it or Lose it
  • Car Seat Clinics
  • CPTED audits
  • Community patrols (foot, bike, Segway)
  • Assist with community response and canvassing
  • Support community events
  • Participate in RIDE programs
  • Perform driving observational surveys
  • Provide first aid
  • Beach Patrols
  • Canvass homeowners and businesses
  • Participate in parades and community events
  • Crime Prevention activities
  • High visibility patrols
  • Assist in Search & Rescue
  • Child Car Seat Clinics
  • CPTED Audits
  • Traffic Initiatives

  • Use of Force
  • Baton Training
  • Firearms Familiarization
  • De-Escalation techniques
  • The Criminal Code of Canada and other Statutes
  • Powers of Arrest
  • Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) training
  • CPSAC Car Seat Technician Training
  • Police Bike and Police Segway training
