UNIFORM PATROL

The Cobourg Police Service is divided, for operational efficiency, into four platoons. This ensures that coverage of the service area is consistent and uniform.

Each platoon is staffed with uniformed officers that are supported by specially trained uniformed members from our newly formed C.E.R.T. team (more information to be released later).  Patrols are completed by using a variety of means: from foot, ATV, Segway to marked cruisers.

Your Police members are trained in containment, de-escalation techniques and interviewing skills along with a variety of use of force options.  These tools are with the officers on every patrol to allow response to various and changing situations as needed.

Each platoon has officers that receive specialized training.  The specialized duties of each platoon are standardized and consist of officers trained in gathering evidence as Scene of Crime officers.  As well, drivers who are arrested for impaired driving can be tested by officers trained in Standard Field Sobriety Testing, drug recognition or by use of the latest model of the Intoxilyzer.

On-going training throughout each year provides updates and new training in many areas of police work from Use of Force to Interviewing Techniques.
Each platoon rotates through the year on a schedule that provides for community protection 24 hours a day, every day.
