THE PARK
The Chris Garrett Memorial Park, located on Birchwood Trail in Cobourg, Ontario, is named in honour of Cst. Chris Garrett #221, who lost his life on May 15th, 2004, while protecting the citizens of the Town of Cobourg. The park is 5.46 acres and has a memorial statue at the centre. Behind the statue is a storm pond and to the north is the St. Mary High School.
There is a plaque in the park with an inscription about Cst Garrett, his life and his heroism. A sculpture stands in the middle of the park, called Hero’s Flight, that is a composition of twenty-four birds and is an expression of life in random action, as was Cst. Garrett’s.
Every year, the National Peace Officers’ Memorial “Run to Remember” stops at the Chris Garrett Memorial Park to pay their respects to Cst. Garrett.
This sculpture composition of twenty-four bird forms is an expression of life in random action, as was Chris Garrett’s. Always soaring upward, they symbolize a “Hero’s Flight.”
The number of birds represent the day of his death 05/15/04
