Personal Safety

Have you been thinking about your safety while out in the community? Here are some tips to keep you safe and confident when out and about in the community.

🔹 When in public, always beware of your surroundings.
🔹 Remove headphones, and do not be distracted by texting or scrolling on your phone.
🔹 Keep your head up and look confident.
🔹 Let someone know where you are going and when you are expected to return.
🔹 Don’t display cash or valuables.
🔹 If someone randomly tries to engage in a conversation, pay close attention to your property and keep a safe distance.
🔹Whenever possible, walk on well lit streets and stick to busier routes with traffic and other people on foot.
🔹Avoid hidden trails or shortcuts through secluded areas.
🔹If you are out at night, wear reflective clothing so drivers can see you.
🔹 Carry a cell phone for 911 and other minor emergencies.
🔹Have your keys ready upon approaching your parked vehicle.

Look out for others – if you see someone in crisis or in medical distress, call 9-1-1.
