A 49-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after police investigated a disturbance downtown Friday night.

On July 11, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., police were on patrol on King Street when officers observed a male yelling at patrons on a patio.  Police stopped to investigate and learned the man was wanted on outstanding warrants with the Cobourg Police Service.  The male refused to comply with demands and attempted to evade and prevent his arrest.

As a result, the 49-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace, obstructing a peace officer, mischief, and two counts of failing to attend court.  The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released on a release order.

A driver was charged with stunt driving as a result of speed enforcement on Sunday.

On July 13, 2025, at approximately 8:40 p.m., police conducting speed enforcement on Division Street observed a vehicle travelling southbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was alleged to have been travelling 98 km/h in a 50 km/hr zone. As a result, the 24-year-old driver was charged with stunt driving and issued a 30-day licence suspension. The vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Speeding not only increases the risk of collisions but also reduces a driver’s ability to react to unexpected situations, putting everyone at risk. Cobourg Police Service encourages all drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and respect speed limits—especially in residential areas, near parks, and along waterfront routes where pedestrian traffic is high.
