A 38-year-old Cobourg woman is facing impaired charges after police conducted a traffic stop Thursday night.
On June 26, 2025, at approximately 11:50 p.m., officers on general patrol observed a vehicle stopped in a live lane of traffic on Elgin Street in the Town of Cobourg. Police attempted to check on the driver’s well-being, at which point the driver proceeded to drive away. Police subsequently conducted a traffic stop and determined the driver was displaying behaviour consistent with that of one impaired by alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old Cobourg woman was charged with the following offences:
- Adult Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
- Adult Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus
- Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit
- Driver Fail to surrender License
- Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle
- Fail to Have Insurance Card
- Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance
The accused’s license was suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle was impounded for 7 days. The accused was released on an Undertaking with a future court date.
The Cobourg Police Service encourages the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Impaired driving is the leading criminal cause of death and injury in Canada, yet every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to the police, everyone can play a role in keeping roads and waterways safe. The Cobourg Police Service has received two reports of individuals attempting to gain access to parked vehicles overnight in the area of John Street and Chapel Street and the area of King Street East and Walton Street. These incidents are currently under investigation.
