COBOURG (February 7, 2025) — Over the weekend, Cobourg Police Service (CPS) Auxiliary members conducted the first car seat clinic of 2025.

Our CPSAC-Certified Car Seat Technicians welcomed and educated six families on car seat safety and inspected thirteen car seats for installation and safety issues. All identified issues were corrected before families departed the clinic.  Thank you to Canadian Tire Cobourg for generously providing the location for this event.

Here are some general car seat installation safety tips to ensure your child’s safety:

  • Always read both your car seat manual and your vehicle manual for specific instructions for proper installation.
  • Avoid buying a second-hand car seat that may be damaged or missing parts.
  • Ensure the car seat is appropriate for your child’s age, weight, and height. Rear-facing seats are recommended for infants and toddlers.
  • The safest place for a car seat is in the back seat.
  • Periodically check the car seat installation and harness fit as your child grows and after any car trips.
  • Do not use products that do not come with the car seat, such as extra padding or covers that can interfere with the seat’s safety.
