COBOURG (July 10, 2025) – The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) has launched the July Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP), with a focus on speeding. As summer brings warmer weather, school breaks, and an increase in road travel, CPS is reminding all drivers to slow down and drive responsibly.
With more families on vacation, tourists visiting the area, and increased pedestrian and cyclist activity, the roads in and around Cobourg are busier than usual. Speeding not only increases the risk of collisions but also reduces a driver’s ability to react to unexpected situations, putting everyone at risk.
“Summer is a time for enjoying the outdoors and spending time with family, but it’s also a time when our roads become more active,” said Constable Taylor Emmerton, Cobourg Police Service. “According to the Canada Safety Council, speeding is one of the leading causes of serious collisions. Through our July STEP initiative, we’re focusing on education and enforcement to help keep roads safe.”
Throughout July, CPS officers will be conducting targeted speed enforcement in areas known for high traffic volumes and speeding complaints. Officers will also be engaging with the community to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and the importance of obeying posted speed limits.
CPS encourages all drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and respect speed limits—especially in residential areas, near parks, and along waterfront routes where pedestrian traffic is high.
Let’s work together to make this summer a safe one for everyone on the road.
