Three Cobourg men have been arrested in an ongoing police investigation into illegal drug activity in the Cobourg and surrounding area.

During the summer of 2024, the Cobourg Police Service (CPS) Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) commenced an investigation with the assistance of the Port Hope Police Service (PHPS) CIB. Police received information that a Cobourg resident was allegedly trafficking illicit drugs in the Town of Cobourg.

On October 10th, 2024, members of the CPS and PHPS CIB, with the assistance of Belleville Police Service K-9 Unit, arrested a male in the Division Street area in the Town of Cobourg.

A subsequent Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Warrant to Search was executed at a Chipping Park Blvd address, which led to the seizure of two loaded handguns, ammunition, approximately 475 grams of cocaine, 250 grams of methamphetamine and $10,455 in Canadian currency.

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $71,235.

As a result of the investigation, Brandon Tripp (22 years of age) and Jacob Sutherland (19 years of age) are charged with the following:

  1. Possession for the purpose of trafficking schedule I substances – cocaine – CDSA 5(2)
  2. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Schedule I substances – methamphetamine – CDSA 5(2)

Brandon Tripp is also charged with (solo charges)

  1. Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – HTA 172(1)
  2. Trafficking in a schedule I substance – CDSA 5(1)
  3. Careless Storage of Firearm – CC 86(1)
  4. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – CC 91(1)
  5. Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized – CC 92(1)
  6. Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm – CC 95(1)
  7. Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 – CC 354(1)(a)
  8. Fail to Comply with Probation – CC 733.1(1)
  9. Possession contrary to order – CC 117.01
  10. Fail to comply with Recognizance (to keep the peace)- CC 811

 Jacob Sutherland is also charged with (solo charges)

1.           Careless Storage of Firearm – CC 86(1)

2.           Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – CC 91(1)

3.           Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized – CC 92(1)

4.           Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm – CC 95(1)

5.           Possession of a firearm knowing its serial number has been tampered with – CC 108(1)(b)

Terry Woolner 28 years of age (solo charge) was also arrested and charged with Possession of a schedule I substance – CDSA 4(1).

Tripp and Sutherland were held for a show cause hearing, and Woolner was released on an Undertaking with a future court date.
