UPDATE April 18, 2024 4:00 p.m.) Arrest made in fire investigation

A 58-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges as a result of a police investigation into a fire Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, police opened an investigation into the circumstances of a fire after responding to a report of a fire behind businesses on Strathy Road Wednesday morning. The Cobourg Fire Department extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported. The fire caused damage to a nearby building and business property.

With the assistance of CCTV surveillance footage, police identified the individual involved.

As a result of the police investigation, a 58-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with mischief destroys or damages property.

The accused was released with a future court date.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at approximately 6:00 a.m., police responded to a report of a fire behind a business on Strathy Road. The Cobourg Fire Department extinguished the fire, and Scenes of Crime Officers processed the scene. No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to identify a person of interest.
