Investigation Update – Identity Theft
COBOURG (December 9, 2023) – Police confirm that the two men arrested as a result of a theft investigation on Tuesday provided false identification to police.
On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police responded to a business parking lot on Strathy Road for a report of a suspicious vehicle where the occupants were believed to be involved in a theft from a neighbouring business. As a result, two men and a woman were arrested and charged with numerous offences. The media release is available here.
Subsequent police investigations revealed that the two male accused provided false identification to police.
The confirmed identities of the two men are Gurpiar SINGH (26) and Manvir SINGH (25) of Peel Region.
The two men previously named are victims of identity theft. This investigation remains ongoing, and further charges are pending.

Three Brampton residents face charges after police responded to a business on Strathy Road.
On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police responded to a business parking lot on Strathy Road for a report of a suspicious vehicle where the occupants were believed to be involved in a theft from a neighbouring business.
The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee and made intentional contact with a police vehicle and other vehicles in the parking lot. Police were able to pin the car and took the three occupants into custody. None of the suspects or officers were injured.
As a result of further police investigation, Gurpiar SINGH (26), was charged with Dangerous Operation, Operation while impaired – alcohol and drug, and Fraudulent concealment contrary to section 341 of the Criminal Code.
Ravneet KAUR, a 25-year-old Brampton woman, was charged with obstructing a peace officer.
Manvir SINGH (25), Gurpiar SINGH (26), and KAUR were jointly charged with two counts of Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (heroin, methamphetamine), two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000, Theft Over $5,000, and Possession of Forged Document.
KAUR was held in custody pending a Show Cause Hearing. Gurpiar SINGH (26) and Manvir SINGH (25) were released on Undertakings with future court dates.
