Thank you for expressing an interest in becoming a volunteer with the Cobourg Police Service – Community Policing Program.Position Title: Community Police Volunteer (CPV)Division: OperationsBranch: Community ServicesImmediate Supervisor: Sergeant, Community Mobilization Unit Position Summary: To provide a service to the public at the community level, by taking assigned reports, doing follow up contacts with victims of crimes and assist in the promotion of Community Based programs. Position Description:
- Meet & Greet the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Provide assistance to members of the public, either over the telephone or in person at the front desk of the Cobourg Police Station or wherever stationed (ie July-August CPV trailer at Victoria Park).
- Direct matters for Police response to the Communications Centre personnel
- Assist with preparation of Background Checks and other report requests
- Accept payments and operate payment devices (cash register/Debit card reader)
- Ensure that visitors entering the secured areas of the Cobourg Police station have signed in and been given ID tags OR are being accompanied by an officer or other authorized personnel
- Complete a variety of police reports as required to ensure the proper description of the incident and/or property involved
- Provide information on programs offered by the Cobourg Police Service
- Assist in the promotion of Community Policing through attendance of special events, outreach projects and displays.(school visits/auto-theft prevention/Safety Village/Parades)
- Attend scheduled group meetings and provide feedback on programs and events of interest.
- Ensure Cobourg Police Service Policies, Procedures and Regulations are properly adhered to and interpreted.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of service equipment.
- Assist in collecting and maintaining various statistics as directed.
- Assist with any other assigned duties.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Submit two pieces of Government Issue ID
- Pass a security clearance check.
- Participate in a personal interview.
- Complete an introductory training program.
Successful applicants must complete an introductory nine (9) hour training program.Applications are available online.
